The Tool Pants are a new design for SS21, taking inspiration from the hard-wearing utilitarian cargo pants worn by US soldiers during the Vietnam War. They’re a relaxed-fitting pair of military trousers, with two side-entry pockets as well as a full-size bellows pocket on the left leg, and a split pocket on the right. They also have both brace buttons, meaning they can be worn with either braces or a belt.
The fabric is a tough, but lightweight, blend of cotton and linen which features a unique camouflage pattern first used by Nigel Cabourn on a summer collection in the 1980s. The pattern is based on the broad ‘brushstrokes’ camo worn by the British SAS during WW2 (most famously on the Denison smocks worn by paratroopers), with brighter, more vibrant colours replacing the traditional brown and green earth tones of the original. Quite possibly the ultimate summer cargo pants.
